History of Pevensey Bay Model Railway Club
HISTORY OF THE CLUB
The Club was founded in early 2010, when modellers in the area saw a need for a local group. It started under the title “Pevensey Bay & District Model Railway Group” meeting in an upstairs room at the Aqua Club, with regular attendance of a least 10 members each week. Modelling initially took place on a donated N gauge layout, but construction of a 00 gauge layout was also undertaken.
Building alteration forced the club to move downstairs to the main Aqua Club Area, but this soon proved to be unsuitable for the erection of the layouts and working thereon.
The Club moved to Ethel Wood Community Centre in the autumn of 2011 where we meet weekly.
The Club has displayed layouts at many exhibitions since 2010, to name a few; LLamedos, Offwytham, Pevensey Beach and Murrell Park.
At its AGM in 2012 the Club changed its name to “Pevensey Bay Model Railway Club”.
The Club held its first annual Exhibition in July 2013 at Pevensey Memorial Hall which proved to be very successful as have all the subsequent exhibitions to date.
THE AIMS OF THE CLUB
The main aim of the Club is to promote and encourage interest in all forms of railways, either model or prototype.
It seeks to construct layouts to exhibition standards, but does not hesitate in advising or assisting members whatever their standards of modelling may be.
Our membership year runs from the 1st September, and we have three levels of membership:
Full – for those over eighteen on the first day of membership year.
Associate – for those adults who do not wish to attend the Clubroom more than twelve times a year in a membership year other than for special events.
Junior - for those under eighteen unless they are still in full time education, at the time of application.
The club's regular meeting is every Monday between 7.00pm and 9.30pm.
Members working on layouts are happy to swap ideas and/or simply discuss railway matters over a cup of tea/coffee.
In addition, other work days/evenings are sometimes arranged by the layout teams, at the hall or at a member’s home.
